MK VI? or a Brand New Selmer?

Hi, i have spent so much over the year's on horn's and have a few regret's but at least now i know i have owned or tried old and new sax's and now i can firmly say that i would alway's go for the new horn now. There's so much more choice and all the little tweak's and tuning, feel etc i find i like,i still love old sax's and if i ever came into some cash i would buy some more vintage one's for keep's sake but for me now as a player a new sax work's best and i still think there's some crazy priced mk6's about. 8)

hmm the 'holy grail' of the mark 6...
Pete, you nailed it in one: "some are really really great horns, but those aren't are the ones that are for sale" The ones I've owned were 'average' and the ones I've played in shops weren't that great either.

I want to know, at what point did they become THE alto to have? Who, exactly played one to make them such an icon? -I guess there's that album sleeve of Coltrane with his tenor, from a pivotal time that made it look cool... but who else? Lester? no, Parker? no, Hawkins? no, Hodges? no. A lot of the 'hype' often comes from seeing a player and wanting to emulate them (Eric Clapton and his guitars for eg)

Meanwhile, good choice Chris! have fun, it will reward you well and be more reliable than any "tired old collectible".

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
