Mister Magic

I recorded this track a few days ago, I got bored and spent a few hours working on this, one of my favourite tunes 'Mister Magic' by Grover Washington Jr.

I sequenced the drums and the keys in midi and recorded the bass, guitar and saxes myself. I'm mainly an alto player and I haven't been practising my tenor much lately so my altissimo isn't the best. I kidna went for a spontaneous thing on the solos and kept them both under 3 takes. Really nice sound you got there Chad I like that a lot. I wouldn't mind a copy of that (actually 2,) one with the tenor taken off so I can rob your work ( >:)

I love this piece too - does anyone know if its available in any books with backing track CD? (as per Jamey Aebersold style) 8)

Artisticlicence, I've never seen it in any play along books but send me your e-mail address and i'll send over the backing track. It's not too hard of a song to figure out how to play the melody, noodle around in Dminor pentatonic with a few Bb's thrown in on the tenor and hopefully you should pick it out!

That's really good. There are several people on this forum (maybe the majority!) who make me think I should shelve the sax, also several other of my musical efforts ... and take up basket making! Only joking ... but you know what mean! I got some catching up to do ... twenty years ago it would've been difficult to produce a quality sound like that without hiring some big expensive studio. Darn good professional-sounding effort ... not just as a whole but in the itty-bitty component parts as well ... I'm quite envious!

Wow, thanks for being so kind everyone. I think I've sent the track to all that have requested it, if I haven't just let me know. I've got a backing track done of Gerald Albright's version of Georgia on my Mind (check it out on youtube, the syncs off but its amaaaazing) but I'm just trying to practice enough so that I do a decent version of the solo.

I'll hopefully have it up in the next few days but now its time for some serious practice...
