IOTM January 2015: R.S.V.P

Impro of the month
Well, it's not quite the end of the month, so here's a tenor version:

It runs out of steam a bit at the end, but otherwise I think I can hear some progress.

If you feel like you're running out of ideas on an exercise like this, there's nothing wrong with repeating yourself. Your fingers will remember where to go and you can give it more emphasis and concentrate on other aspects. It can be surprising how playing it the same can sound so different.

It is a precise duty of every cafemember and cafemembress to contribute to the glory of the forum!

How can I ignore that!

A year ago I promised @aldevis I would have a go at improvising, I tried but I couldn't do it. So here we are a year on and I promised to try again. 🙂

With these wise words from @Nick Wyver ringing in my ears 😎

It's as though they expect that they should be good at it from the beginning and if they're not then it's not worth trying. Why should improvisation be different from any other skill that you have to practise?

Thanks to Al, @Chris @Nick Wyver and @Taz I have managed to record something that I felt was good enough for a first attempt at improvising to post.

So here it is will they invite me back

So all you beginners out there, give it a go. I had more fun doing this than any sight reading I have done. :sax:

All you experienced players, any feed back you have will be much appreciated but don't get too technical I just listened to the BT, read what Chris said were the appropriate notes to play and had a bit of fun noodling.

Thanks for listening

Jx

Playing without dots is where the music is for me.

It's not really about knowing what you're doing. It's about expressing and enjoying yourself and while you're doing that, picking up a few things along the way that help us to understand a little more. Having a project like this motivates us to do something. The doing improves us and expands our horizons.

It's only music after all. Nobody dies lol

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
