Misc recording Improved or not?

I've got way too much time on my hands at the moment, (how many of us wish we could say that?) but boredom takes its toll. So I find myself in the unfortunate situation of being forced to pick up that blasted piece of brass and play...and play...and play... Its a tough world!
Anyway. I bought a copy of Cubase sx and thought I'd have another go at being film director/producer and music arranger/musician. (I Dont think I got the hang of any of them really :laugh: ) But you comments are most welcome as usual.

Ill be first taz I dont know if i drunk too much tnight or if my hard works taking its toll but the sound is really nice and mellow, however the video is slightly off to the sound. I think that version is good though.
Im confused about what we are giving feedback on too? sound good playing ability nice and smooth all this if you have your eyes closed watch the video and hmm doesnt add up and takes the quality away.

i loved this version when i closed my eyes and listend to it without video. what version cubase? what windows are you sing?

I have a beringer Pro mixing desk and i miked my sax up to it with just a sm58 and put a little reverb on and wow I sounded ultra great ?

i like your improvisation to this song i wish i could improvise .....i keep trying 🙁 but hey i only been playing 3 months now.

all in all keep the sound lose the vid nice work.

hey chief, really sweet mellow sound. You listen to much Ben Webster? 😉 very very smooth.

Video? - dunno really, there's millions of films like this on Youtube.. makes me feel a bit of a voyuer! LOL Titles were good 🙂 I just listened to it while I was reading here, the first time. I've thought about mounting the camera on the bell looking up, in a dark room with a single anglepoise lamp. Never got round to it.

Hey wow thanks guys, I wasn't expecting such rave reviews.
Mick, I know what you mean, the vid isn't quite in sync. but I enjoyed trying to make it a little more professional.
I've got a sure 607 (very cheap) running through a Behringer 602 mx desk, I've got Cubase sx3 running on windows xp. I've also downloaded some extra compression software. Its called Fish Fillets. It just cleans up the sax a bit and prevents it from clipping.
Jools, your right, you do tend to feel like a voyeur. Hmm, maybe I could take a leaf out of CDD's protest video, you know, sort of moody, arty type stuff. I haven't listened to any Ben Webster, but I'll look him up.
Bob, I usually am but I thought I'd try something a little different. I enjoy mellow/moody, but I keep struggling with the lower registers. Must practice more long tones

you haven't heard Ben Webster ! ? - dude, you've got a soul mate waiting right there. Luckily, he lived a ripe old age so there's lots of contemporary stereo recordings. Go for the small ensemble stuff, you'll really dig it. 😉

Well done Taz, it's a winning style to follow Ben Webster sound....yer on the same track, just relaxing into it is the key.....I rekon...wouldn't we all like to play like Ben Webster.
Ps his nick name was "The Brute" because of his sometimes fearsome temper!.

Gidday Taz. re the Veibmeld Special and Jools, no listen again feature or podcast, I couldn't mention it sooner as the station router wasn't working. Best show so far I've done, what with my Veibmeld station Id's and Jingles.......

Appologies Veibmeld there was a whirl/hum in the background, which sometimes comes from my laptop. They do have the original files though.

wow - a great sound - and I loved the improvisation. And I have a few questions.

Where did you get the music from - great accompanying CD? I would love to get it to play along with.
Plus are you pleased with your recording set up? We haev just moved around rooms at home so now we have a music room, and my husband wants to buy some gear - are you pleased with your set up?

Hi Helen If you pm your email address to me I may be able to send you the track as an attachment, as for the music I play by ear as I cant read music...yet..
As for the recording setup, I bought Cubase sx3 of a friend of mine who has just upgraded. Its a bit complicated but I'm slowly getting the hang of it. I've got a Sure mic, it's not the 58, like everyone recommends, but a cheaper relative. I plug the mic directly into a Behringer Eurorack 602mx mixer and then plug that into the line in on the pc. I'm still trying to get my sound just right, so it sounds "live" to my ears.
If you get something similar to cubase then you can download free midi tracks and then edit them if you wish. That's what I do. They are copyright free. I've got loads 8)
If you set up a home studio, let me know how you get on. 😉

Pete - very nice indeed. Smooth, nice vibrato, nice easy style. Is this the sort of stuff you really want to be doing, 'cos it's a bit different from what you must play in a rockabilly band?

I recon so, I think this is where my heart is. I love the old slow blues, Tommy Tucker, Buddy Guy, Louisana Red although Ray Charles is one of my favourites. I've been listening to Ben Webster (as advised from above ..ta jools 😉 )and find myself drawn to his style. MY ultimate goal....Drums, Double base, Piano/Keyboard and a sultry female vocalist in the style of Allison Moyet...
You don't think I'm setting my sights too high do you? :laugh: :laugh:
