I'm too depressed to play

I've been going through a real low myself, my dads been in hospital for nearly eight weeks now, my employer is threatening to terminate my contract (I've been on long term sick after an accident a year ago) and the government has decided that the run up to Christmas would be a great time to f*%^ up my benefits!!! 😡 So, what do I do to cheer myself up, I find a jam session, if that fails I go out busking, if that fails I go for a long walk, if that fails............ 8|

I hope you find some way forwards soon, failing that (favorite saying at the mo) there are some musician jokes lurking somewhere in the archives that is the Breakfast Room
Good luck...failing that

Pete, I feel your pain. My other half's mother is going for a major cancer op tomorrow in Scotland, he left on the boat tonight. I couldn't go with coz I have to work. I hope your dad gets better soon.

I decided to go with the "Eat a Sh**load of macaroni cheese" option while I'm waiting to feel better

I got salvation from unexpected quarters tonight... my friends in Scotland and I got on the webcam and had a giggle about the olden days and kept me from brooding 🙂

Simon, I am a Mac&Cheese purist and wouldn't let anything bar a bit of salt and pepper onto my plate >.<

Pete I missed it coz I was video-calling, I'll look it up on BBC iPlayer tomorrow! Thanks for the tip!

We in Wales would keep a welcome in the hillsides, but even here its a bit miserable. Sad to hear about elderly parents and operations and all that - signing a form saying that you are aware of the possible risk of death can bring it home very clearly 🙁

Hope things work out well
Tom

Yoyojojo, my wife had a heart attack two years ago then my daughter got seriously ill, i moved house 4 times in two years as i moved back from Spain to the Uk after living away for more than 20 years, got a new job which is very hard at the moment, then i got very ill this year in February, only recently came out of hospital, so i know how it may seem insumountable, but things do get better, they really do. I took up the sax in Feb this year ( is that why i got ill ?? ) just recently upgraded to a Mauriat PMXT R66 and yesterday received my PPT 8* MP, you know what, i could swear there was a ray of sunshine over my house last night so i've sent some up to you as well, wish you all the best and bon courage, keep playing.. Phil :w00t:

Yup I've had a few of those times too and I know what it's like when you feel the hopeless slide downhill starting. I found the answer is in something completely mentally distracting. I used to go sailing which demands complete focus (plus fresh air and light which is always good). Now I find playing the sax is my way out - full concentration, so push yourself back into it and see if it works for you.
And the forum has showed it's a great support network. We're all here to help!

As encouragement - my step-father had a major cancer op and was given a max of 5 years - which he turned into 25+ by positive thinking. I had a minor one and am "cured".

C is scary but it doesn't always win. Give the doctors all the help you can by researching visualisation techniques, relaxation, music therapy 🙂 etc for your mother in law. (And yourself, and your other alf. It can be harder on the relatives than the patient sometimes.)

Seriously - hospital I attended has a centre for 'complementary' therapies - for patients or carers who want to walk in and try them. Actively promoted by the cancer teams.

You don't have to just wait, there is something you can do for yourselves. I promise, it feels good when you realise that.

Hope all goes well for you all.

Guys, I don't mind admitting I shed a tear reading your compassionate replies, and I feel humbled by your stories of your own troubles- thank you all ever so much x
