Saxophone FS H N White King Cleveland Curved Soprano Saxophone

A little treasure in satin gold with bright gold keys and bell. In excellent condition and plays top (Eb) to bottom (Bb). Old case that's OK for now and has little/no stink. I don't know how this beautiful little horn survived in such good condition. No dings, dents or repairs. Serial # 40819 Low pitch. According to the H N White Company records this puts it at 1915 SerialNumbers - hnwhite.com


Super soft mellow tone and requires alarge chamber mouthpiece. It can be pushed however to "cut"with more air. Definitely works as a collector's horn, yet is wonderful to play. Very rare as King was a much smaller maker than rivals Conn and Buescher. However King always made top notch horns up until the 1950s. The curved sopranos are much rarer as well. It's hard to find comparable horns for pricing. A straight King soprano from the same era recently sold on Ebay for just under $1750USD. It was tarnished silver in "as is" condition. This little curvy should be a very good buy at $2350 USD in very good original condition. It's listed elsewhere, but not yet on Ebay or Reverb.

Most would want the clip to be a video so that they can see the horn playing. I've got to set that up and am not entirely sure how I did that in the past (maybe six years ago?). Easiest would be a phone, but the audio quality is ****. Not sure how easy it would be to sync a phone video to a good audio recording. Will try to figure it out.

Geez Wade !!! I couldn’t play a curved SOP that well in my wildest dreams. Let alone a vintage one !! That is one beautiful looking and sounding king SOP 🤩. To someone that is worthy it’s very fairly valued too. Thanks for taking the time to make the video.

That's so very kind of you! I do post a lot of tracks. There a repository of three hundred on this site that were brought here in an agreement between the site "Wikiloops" and Pete here at the Cafe. They were for the purpose of giving novel original tracks (rather than "standards") for players here to practice playing/improvising by ear. There's two tracks in each post, one that's just the backing and one with my playing to give people some ideas of ways to approach a novel piece of music. This is something that Pete Thomas is in favor of, yet there is a very established routine of practices with known tunes/standards. That is very much reinforced by the academic style of improvisation instead of players trying to become one with their instrument so that they can play what they hear in their heads or to match something totally novel.

Playing known tunes and practicing them is more than OK, as any practice helps us with all aspects of becoming better musicians. However if an individual has professional aspirations, or would like to improvise playing melodies, original music, or something more personal, then the standard type of practice doesn't tend to lead them to that point. It's about presenting an alternative practice routine. Here's the section on this site:
