Hello everyone, and particularly Griff who I know lives down the Exeter end of the country. My question is quite simple - is there a music shop, particularly one with saxophone stuff, in Exeter? I'm going to be down there for a bit on Thursday afternoon, possibly with some browsing time before heading off for the glories of Cornwall on Friday.

there is a music shop in Exeter - in Sidwell street but it probably has 3 saxes in the shop! 🙁 🙁

You may be better - if you are coming down the M5 - going to Packers inTaunton.

Thanks for the info Griff - I usually keep off the motorway as I prefer the good old A303 (a bit slower, but less miles and has the excellent Cartgate Truckstop and picnic area) but I may make a detour to Taunton, which isn't too far out of the way.

Jools, you will be in Cornwall too? What part? I will be around the Marazion area. I'm hoping to take the alto, but it's 50/50 at the moment as its place may need to be filled with a travel cot for one of the toddlers.

Itinerary? Never heard of it, don't use one :laugh: by the time everyone's together, looked at the weather, decided where to go, changed the baby again etc it's usually time to come back.

12 people in one house including two toddlers, guaranteed chaotic but great fun.... can't wait

Packers is a good shop but difficult to find unless you know Taunton

There used to be a great shop in Exeter's Fore Street - Greenhaulgh's - selling sax stuff etc but I think that closed last year tho still worth checking in case. I think Packers is the closest (I'm in North Devon and had to travel to Taunton to get my sax). But the Exeter Festival is on when you're there so maybe there'll be some music stuff going on in the streets.

Sounds good Ruby, but it's a bit of a flying visit to Exeter, possibly only a couple of hours. Still, you never know what you might see... possibly an impromptu G-man performance 😉

Well, I found Packers quite easily and even though they only had Superials for tenor (another place not stocking them any more) it's a nice little shop, so thanks for the heads up Griff.

As it happened, I didn't spend more than about 10 minutes in Exeter - arrived far too early to put the people on the train, so we detoured to Exmouth for a paddle before going into Exeter. Lovely 🙂

Now back in lovely Welwyn before going all the way (to Cornwall) at 6 tomorrow morning.
