Miscellaneous Do you have a “pet peeve”

Say hello to Mr. Peeve.

post.webp

Seriously, my pet peeve is sound engineers who aren't musicians.

Oh, and vocalists who can't seem to sing in certain keys. Well, actually, it's vocalists. All vocalists.

Barcode stickers on fruit. I mean seriously.
Oh, can we go anywhere with this? Mine above were just saxophone related, but there are sooooo many more. Let's see...

--People who naturally assume that you're dumber an they are, especially when they're trying to manipulate you.

--When the restaurant fills the salad bowl so full that you can't mix in the dressing without tossing lettuce everywhere.

--People who do their jobs with the least possible effort to produce a barely functional result

--When a chair or table is missing a leveling foot so it goes thunk-thunk every time you shift your weight.

--Kitchen junk drawers

--When you want to replace a fine product you've had for 30 years only to find out the manufacturer moved production to China in 1997 and the product that bears their name is now a cheap POS that gives you lead poisoning.

--Walmart Personal Shoppers (In the US, these are the poor souls that clog the isles with these massive, wide-load industrial hand trucks piled with groceries for other people who can't be bothered to do their own grocery shopping. They used to be cashiers, but now we all have to scan and bag our own stuff so they can be free to cater to someone's laziness.)

--Having to pay for extra stuff in a subscription service you've already bought (that's you, Amazon effing Prime)

--People who walk right out of the restaurant lavatory without washing their hands

--Surveillance cameras...geez, they're freakin' everywhere now

--All the new "safety" tech in new cars--they buzz when there's a car in the lane beside you, they beep to tell you there's a wall in front of you as you pull into your garage, they hit the brakes when you're trying to back up with a trailer and (my personal favorite) always remind you to "check the back seat" when you turn off the car.

There's more. The world has become a really annoying place.

drummers who can't be bothered to learn to read!
Doesn't bother me if they are never gigs that don't require reading. There are loads of great drummers out there who don't read and never need to. It would be a peeve if they actually needed and wanted to read, and or say they can rerad, but can't be bothered to learn

Stick and carrot

Tie the carrot to the stick and dangle it in front of a donkey while sat on it's back. The donkey walks forward to try and get the carrot.

The metaphor is about using encouragement to achieve a goal, and nobody gets threatened or hit with anything.

My pet peeve is people saying "we need more stick" to imply that threats should be made.

People who encourage others to air their peeves and grievances in public. What’s the point? Usually neither we nor they are going to be able to do anything about them, so everyone just ends up a little bit grumpier for no good reason.

When Jeremy Vine’s vox pop starts, the radio gets switched off. Gah.

Only 2 come to mind:
- people (kids/teenagers?) who leave litter lying around within 3-4 feet of a litter bin
- people (acquittances) whose only mode of conversation is to talk about themselves, their friends, their lives, etc.

So I pick up the litter and put it in the bin. And I keep these kind of 'conversations' as short as possible!

Other than that, I'm pretty laid back🙂.

Automatic telephone answering systems with no option to connect to a human being. Also those which do not allow you to enter your selection without going through the whole menu even when you know which option you need.😡
Edit just tried to contact local council refuse dept. only to be told by the operator that she can only contact them by internal email.

Chatbots, virtual assistants, automated call systems-I just want to speak to a human being! People who use "perfect, like, literally" all the time and finish every phrase with "yeah, know what I mean, innit, bro", and other useless tags. People who use "at this moment in time", "you can see visually", I could go on :confused2:!

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
