December 2014- "My Ship"

I got a vintage horn yesterday to test. Never owned such an old saxophone, always was very sceptic, but this one is really nice.
It's a Buescher Big B, 302xxx.
Surprisingly, I don't have problems to get my fingers on the right keys, and intonation is fine too.
Well, almost :)
Okay, there's sharp in tune and there's flat in tune.
But the sound got me so distracted, more noodling than ever before.

Have fun,

Very nice Chris,

I really wish I could hold my horses like you are able to.

Not 100% comfortable with this tune yet but I'll post this to break the ice.

What can you say about playing like that, in my humble opinion it's superb, can't imagine what it would be like if you got comfortable with it, hope you keep on posting,I could listen to that kind of stuff all day long......John

Hey,
sorry, I couldn't stand my playing, so I deleted everything...

Here is the restored Buescher version again:

I brought it back to the store, too much money for this old lady, though she sounds fine.

Here is my new Mark VII version, hard to compare as I used a short reverb to make it sound more natural:

Not much time for playing or listening but I`ve managed a quick redo of my attempt and also had a chance to listen to them all. Apart from the fact that Horn (80 yrs old next week) needs a few repairs and It`s really hard to get the shoulderless pivot screws I need for the 10m to mend the octave mech and other leaks grr.. I think this number is one of the hardest I`ve tried for a while . . being I think a song that relies greatly on the lyric and it`s delivery. For me this type of number is always hardest but can also sometimes throw out a classic.. King Curtis live version of Whiter shade of Pale ( Withnail and I theme ) springs to mind.

@ Guenne listened to both and both were great I loved the Buescher sound, pity it had to go

@ Moose. well done for posting such a challenging number. You are getting a bit of a bowing effect ( Cello ) it`s probably something to do with varying your attack to notes, but I`m no expert and you are getting all the important things nailed.
@B Flat preferred the vintage vibe of your first take very sexy macho playing on both though. very good
@ CTB loved the almost calypso swing of your version conjured up visions of Nottinghill in 50`s or 60`s ( not that I`d know anything about that).
@blateflat great classic vintage tone and sound. You make a good job of ornamenting the very basic but challenging melody, really getting into your stride , enjoyable listening indeedy
@dubrossa22 i cant see the track buddy

Maybe Jbtsax has a better recommendation, but I think you'll get the screws from Ferree's tools in the US. Their service is good, but I seem to remember having to find what I wanted in the catalogue, then having to order by email.
