Playing the saxophone Classical sound on tenor

@David Roach ...I play with a high arch and I curl it a bit to get an even more focussed airstream.

I play an11* high baffle mpce with #3 reeds. I can play pp level on the bell notes. I suspect if I tried to use lip pressure I'd end up biting my lip off.

The sound palette I get goes from big band sax section to duelling with electric guitar. IMO sound palette is mostly about mpce/reed/embouchure than choice of sax....
 
FWIW I just tried dropping my tongue. Can't get much below mf and altissimo is weak and unstable. Don't know if that means anything.

@jbtsax it isn't a true subtone but it does have some of that breathiness. Would never do for classic playing.

It's all @Pete Thomas 's fault. I was happy as a clam in the mud on my 10MFan Boss until he sent me the PPT Hooligan 11* to try. Its not an easy horse to tame but its breadth of palette and balance throughout the registers are amazing. In truth I like its altissimo sound better than my high notes on sop.
