Cannonball Saxophones

i tried a few.. almost bought a mad meg alto.. but the tuning was all over the place..the meg is the onlyone that dont look like a toy.. all these new finnishes make saxes look tacky.. but thats just me.. save a few quid and get a yamaha 82z custom..you do get a real sax then,, not somthing with all these stones stuck on the neck..

if you want a broucher i've got a couple around the house.. i will gladly send it to you.. 2nd class of course, i'm a tight b'tard

Frank Zappa fan then Peter? 😉

I dislike these "vinatge" finishes. They remind me of all the horrible "vintage" jeans. Fake and a bit naff.

I do not care what any instrument looks like if it is a killer. Given the choice I do not like lacquered horns, I would have a plated one every time.

But you just have to blow the ones you want to buy. They all have their own character, even saxes of the same model. There are always exceptions to the rules, odd ball instruments that are amazing.

It is like Levis jeans.... you have to try them on as they are not consistent. Selmers for sure are famous for this.

I would have probably bought a Hanson myself had it not been for my DG popping up. It is an idiosyncratic sax, just suits me spot on, ergonomics, keyword, not very free blowing, etc . I thought I had missed the boat given that they are thin on the ground and out of production so I had to snap it up. I'll have to try and get some good photos taken but it is a very pretty thing. I feel that it is too sexy but it suits the character of the instrument. I have warmed to it being black.

I can't see how you'll save any money buy getting an 82Z? the best price for them I've ever seen is ?1900. (Tenor) and that's the standard gold laquer.

I'm probably going to go down to the shop within the next few weeks so I'll post a little review. I'll be looking at the YTS62 and 901/2 among others, so we'll see how one compares.
