I wasn't meaning the lovely bit of Shakespeare...I meant the black coloured bird on your recording that doesn't have an orange beak

I see a little silhouette of a bird,
Scaramouch, Scaramouch,
Wings do the fan dango!

Apologies to F.M.

I did record this tune three times before (for SOTW and a German sax forum). Here are the oldies:

- June 2016:

I used a free Ralph Patt backing track for these two takes on two different vintage Florida Otto Link mouthpieces from my collection.

1. - 'Bye Bye Blackbird' (50's Florida no USA 10* - Plasticover 2) - Ralph Patt backing:

2. - 'Bye Bye Blackbird' (60's Florida USA 11* - Plasticover 2) - Ralph Patt backing:
http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=13400976

Backing track: Backing Tracks

The 50's Florida no USA 10* sounds in my ears a bit brighter and louder than the Florida USA 11*.

- March 2016:

3. - 'Bye Bye Blackbird' (Florida no USA 10* - Plasticover 2) - YouTube backing without piano:

I have had a couple of goes at this but it's really unforgiving and showing my lack of tempo in the longer notes :(

Back to the practise board! :sax:

Keep practicing, take it slowly and reveal the fruits of your labours towards the end of the month!

@Colin the Bear is better than most at explaining how to practice a piece

Here is my attempt, my first tune and recording on Tenor. I wasn't going to post one this month as i really wasn't happy with it and don't think i'll get time to record another. I stuck almost entirely to the sheet except for the odd moment when i was feeling brave :sax:.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated!

It's excellent.... nice little additions when your feeling brave... keep it up

A gnat's crotchet ahead of time in places, so that's something to work on

@IGoddard Well done the quality balance of the recording and backing is very good. I agree with previous contributor about timing. Personally I find the best way to improve is always when practising / learning new tunes scales, licks, riffs etc. Is to use a metronome and only when you can play without mistakes gradually increase the tempo to where you want to be. It is too easy to be distracted by listening to the backing while recording so that you are not 100% focused on playing in time in tune.

@U CAN CALL ME AL I often practise with the metronome and my timing is much much better. Its only when i lose the visual aid of the metronome and a bit more going on alongside the beat in the backing track that i begin to lose my way somewhat.

A big thank you to @Ivan for being a wonderful host for our September thread and choosing a great tune.

October's host is in place and raring to go so please do support his thread :)

I'd like to say a big thank you to @nigeld who has very kindly agreed to coordinate the BOTM & SOTM from now on so if you wish to participate as a future host please do contact him. Assistance with sheet music and dots will be available.

Thanks for continuing to support the threads by hosting, posting or just listening :)
