I calculate that you could get the complete set up of 3 Bauhaus Walstein saxes, plus 2 straps, plus Rico mouthpieces/Rovner Ligs and Marca Jazz reeds for the princely sum of ?1178.00.

Is this the best quality bargain available - before GAS sets in? If only I'd waited, I could have bought more brass instruments. 🙁

Kind regards
Tom

Smiffy, do you mean with the stock I've already got, or because of my business sensibilities?

Are you having an early lunch or a long breakfast? Or holding a vigil for the new Walstein?

Anyway, Kind regards as always.
Tom

PS what reed would you like as a gift for your Tenor - Gonzales 2, Marca Jazz 2, RSJ 2M/2H, or a LaVoz MS? Does the Sax come with a MPC or will you have to get one?

I think the stock you have will be enough for now 😉

It's just got the Yam4

Just sold my Selmer S80 on ebay so will be looking for a MP for the Walstein but, will wait till I try the yam out first so I can gauge what I may need

Stuck at home this week having to do tax and stuff for the new dead line of end of OCT
Quiet anyway 🙁

You can send me anything you don't want, I can use them as firewood if the worst comes

It can put you right off trying to be serious at times.

Question is, does that include mouthpieces, straps and reeds - c'mon, reveal your sources. 😛

Tom

Indeed it does, albeit stock pieces of dubious quality and La Voz reeds yuk.

As a laugh and on Stephen Howards recommendation I bought a gear4music alto and its surprisingly good, a little bright maybe, but I got me a Brilhart to darken it and its now spot on. Its a Yani 991 copy so the ergonomics are crack on, all for ?180. Stephen also rates the Baritone too, don't know about the tenor or Bass, but if the source is the same in China then they won't be half bad.

I do have reservations about G4M they don't set or play test the instruments, so I had a 20min session setting it up, but apart from that no complaints.

I'm Just A-GAS you have spent time working that out!

😱

I have longer gaps between sessions when I am playing trumpet, so get a little more creative in my explorations - it is a way of NOT buying things online, and much cheaper.

I'll have to look up G4M again, especially when I need to get the baritone. Do they do Soprillo's as well?

Kind regards
Tom

Pjohna....i also bought a G4M alto on a whim...whats the brilhart MP like on it and which MP do you have?

cheers

Wavy, I got a new Brilhart (Selmer USA) Ebolin ASX for the alto, its a whole lot darker than the Yamaha 5C I had on it. Got the piece from All agro in Oxford for ?33, I chose it after playing the excellent Selmer Soloist C**, absolutely briliant on the G4M but trying to justify the extra ?60 was a big ask at the time, maybe Xmas.

On my tenor I use a Brilhart Super Ebolin 5* which is an original 1960's piece and I love it, its so dark and subtones so well, if you thing Dick Parry on Us and Them is smooth you aint heard nuffin!

I'm looking for one on the Baritone now, it could be a long search for an original which isn't stupid money.

Someone posted the other day that they had found a Brilhart Levelair for ?140 for alto, as used by so many of the greats.

Rico Graftonite are also designed by the great Arnold Brilhart too so maybe I'll try one of those soon.

I'd love to try the G4M Bass sax, its silly money for such a beast, I wonder if anyone on here has got one???

Thats ridiculously cheap, even for a nasty plastic piece, I think I'll give it a go Tom, thanks for that.

Not even that nasty, either. I've got one for alto and it plays just fine. They come in a range of three levels of brightness and three of tip opening. The C (brightest) is really pretty good.

Sorry I've just read what I said, which does sound too good, I wasn't referring to the Graftonite as a nasty plastic one, I meant one of those horrid ones you get with cheap instruments. My apologies.

I think so, they don't seem to have any left, but she did email me to say that it had been posted 10mins after I pressed Pay Now on Paypal. Quite impressed really, we'll wait and see.

I ended up on a Canadian site run by Helen, a bass sax convert who says its the best mouthpiece she has ever tried!! seem a bit unlikely, but I'm prepared to be astounded.

I'll let you know if it turns up tomorrow.
