I'm looking to bet back into playing after a 40 year hiatus. I played an alto back then but wish to take up the tenor.
I've got a tight budget of about £1000 so have been looking at brands in that price range.
The JP USA Tenor appears to be a good choice so just wondered what your thoughts are on this model?

I bought an Alto and found it to be great I have played a little 30 years ago but as a beginner. So I love it the sound is actually very good, I am using a Selmer mouthpiece and have bought a great ligature. It’s cheap and better than others I tried as you can get a nice sound from it.

I just wanna asterisk my prior comments on this topic, because I interestingly had a recent tire-kicker come to me and for some reason speak of the JP in the same sentence/category as the likes of Jupiter and Yamaha, claiming I had suggested so on forum comments (not sure whether they were reading here or the mean sax forum).

So to reiterate: my opinion is....

... IF one INSISTS on buying a NEW sax without REALLY having a market value budget for a reputed name-brand new model....the JP's aren't gonna be a bad choice given the choices one would have in ultra-budget-priced new horns.

There's nothing glaringly bad about them, and they seem to hold regulation.

There's a difference between THAT, and intimating that they are on par with a used Yama, Jupe, or Buffet.
