Your help please

I have a little favour to ask (I know Ken has already voluteered to do this anyway so thanks Ken)

I am currently getting my CD ready for manufacture. It contains some multimedia content and I need to test this. I develop on Mac OS X, and although I can test the Windows side of things on my son's PC, it would be useful if those of you with PCs could tell me if this video file works, and if not which version of Windows Media Player.

Currently I am converting from QT to Windows Media Video using the WMV add on to QT Pro, but it appears to be version so it's especially useful to know if it works on earlier versions of WM Player.

Yes - my preference is for Splash rather than Forest Gump.

Works on Media Player 10 on XP Home.

I'm unable to help with an earlier version Pete.

Hi Pete,

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. The link failed to work at home last night on my winbox via firefox (WinXPhome, QTpro or WM9). I'll try again this evening. On my Mac G4 at work today (OS 10.4.6) the link worked via Camino but the video crashed 50% of the way through. I don't know what this all means- Apple have just updated QT.

As happens, Forest Gump was on the TV t'uther night... brill movie!

Tell me (I was doing two things at once while it was on) was there a sax playing, I walked into the room and it seemed there was a football stadium?!? scene at the time. Something sounded awesome, but it was too short.

I only saw it once, I don't remember but there may well have been. If it was a football stadium, that may be when he meets the president, perhaps Bill's friend Kenny was around?

It was an old horn I borrowed from Willie Garnett saxophone repairer specially to get dunked - he was going to give it a complete overhaul anyway so no mint MKVIs were harmed in the making of this film.

Thanks David, don't know what the problem there is because the video should be playing in WMP not QT.

Hi Pete,
same thing happens on my G5, the link opens a new pink page with a black wmv window, and crashes half way through the video, the activity window message says "Plug-in cancelled". I've tried several times always the same result.

Seems like I need to do a bit more testing with Windows Media then or maybe the video is corrupt. This is a link direct to the video (can be downloaded), probably the same result I imagine:

My problem is it won't even play on my G5 so it could just be a dodgy file

yes, that link opens the windows media player, but again the playback crashes at about 1.41.
I'm using OSX 10.4.6 and the media player is version 9.0
also I can't download it to check it out independently.

Should be OK as the CD will include a QT and WMV version

Not sure which version of WMV was used, but if it's 10, it won't play on a mac with Windows Media Player (Microsoft only makes up to 9 for mac). However, it works perfectly fine for me using quicktime with the "Flip4mac" plugin, which plays Windows Media Files.
