As a lover of music, this is an impossible task. Whatever I took I would miss not having taken so many more. I can say what I wouldn't take: Any opera or churchy choral music.
Can't you change the rules to; one jazz, one rock, one Blues & one other? :cry:

My one disc would be a several gigabyte hard drive, in a PC, with several thousand tracks on it. I couldn't manage with anything less. If I can't have that, then because I'd miss what I didn't have too much, I wouldn't have anything at all. But, if I had to have only one it would be John Cale's "Paris 1919", or Monk at the Town Hall. Or Brian Eno's "Another Green World". Or Television's "Marquee Moon", Mingus "Blues and Roots"...or "Ah Um". Or 'S F Sorrow' by t'Pretty things, or Ellington Live at Newport. Etc

You're a cruel man, Mfox. I notice you didn't mention your one 😛

Ouch- very tricky one indeedio. John Martyn's Solid Air, Tom Waits' Rain Dogs, The Stooge's Fun House (finest ever rock & roll album)... Your ban on compilations is awkward- I'd go for a 'best of' Duke Ellington, or Lester Young, Mingus or Ben Webster but couldn't honestly pick an individual album by any of them that sound cut it as an all time fave. For a jazz one It would have to default to Miles Davis' Kind of Blue (not that that's a bad thing!).
