Mouthpieces Which mouthpiece for my buescher Alto top hat & cane

Hi everybody,

i have juste bought a buescher top hat and cane alto, I used to play a vandoren V16 A8M on my yamaha 23 but it does not work on the buescher, changing reeds does not change anything.

My other MPC a Jumbo java A35 work well but it is a very bright mouthpiece I would like something more round or dark not too bright.

It is maybe because I saw great review of Pete Thomas alto sax that I bought this sax 😉 anyway if you can help feel free

I've got a slightly older Buescher alto, a True Tone. I've tried a number of mouthpieces, but the one I've found best is a Yanagisawa metal, number 6. It seems a bit odd playing a modern Japanese metal mouthpiece on a 1920s American sax, but it really works well.

A standard java (not jumbo) is a good option in my experience.
I had an A45 and it was very versatile.

I have two MPC's I now prefer, equally as capable of being warm or bright but fatter and louder than the A45.
They are an RPC90 roll over and a GWind NYMC #8.

I believe Pete still plays an RPC 90r.

I'd agree a Vandoren java is great, also a Selmer Soloist. This is the kind of horn which has a personal sound, you want a mouthpoece that lets that out nicely, ie one that doesn't have too much of a hat on.
