. The ligature MP combo conumdrum is my latest puzzle to solve, and without having a good sax shop within 170 miles, trying a few out is the problem for me. I got a Rovner ligature and Yamaha 5C MP when I bought my BW a few weeks ago, on the dealer's recommendation. I don't even know where to start in thinking about alternatives - or if I need an alternative.

You don't necessarily need to think about alternatives at this stage. The only issue I'd ever raise at this stage is that it can be good to try an alternative mouthpiece to see whether there is a particular/significant difference in terms of ease of playing or whether you prefer the sound produced. Some folks find that the sound they produce may be too mellow or too bright and have begun to develop a sense of what sound they would prefer to produce. Getting an alternative can often help clarify the issue and there are several cheaper mouthpieces out there that may be worth a punt. One of my favourite Alto mouthpieces is the Windcraft Etude HR mouthpiece at £50, the Clark Fobes Debut at £36, the Runyon 22 at £37, the Bari Esprit II at £14. I suppose you never know until you know, but it should not be a particular need at this stage.

Got to agree with Tom, if you find the combination easy to blow and like your sound stick with what you have, if it's hard to blow or too bright/dark might be worth a try of something else but you can spend a lot of time messing and not actually progressing in your playing.;}

Thanks, but I actually meant..."why I have not received it yet"? Apparently it's due to arrive on Monday.
