What I really love on this site seems to be a mood of easy going people having fun and exchanging ideas, pulling each others leg and all sorts of stuff without the usual flame wars and other nastiness that so often seems to be a feature of other special interest bulletin board sites.

I once saw Pete's DVD and he struck me as a really nice easy going guy, maybe this rubs off on everyone else here.

I hope the mood continues, it is such a refreshing change.

Pete was also spotted on a New Years UK television production with Jules Holland a few years back. I cant remember the exact name of the show but I think it was something like

Jules Holland's Hogmany.

Other artists of note were Courtney Pine and Dina Carrol.

I have it on tape but have been disapointed that it has not re-appeared since I bought a DVD recorder as I would love to get a digital version.

I am sure Pete smiled a bit on this one !!!!

I wonder what its like being a musician playing a gig on New Years eve when most other folks have already downed more alcohol than is really wise and you have to be stone cold sober to entertain them!

My sax teacher, after borrowing my copy of Pete's dvd, said that Pete has a rather different approach (not a criticism, I should add) and that he didn't seem to be enjoying himself much 😛

He shares the view that it's good to see a different approach, anyway, as it often makes something 'click into place'.

He(my teacher) uses Leslie Evans' notes as a framework. I don't know if anyone is familiar with these, but I'm getting along with them quite well (-ish!) .

The different approach was by design, that's why they asked me to do it as I wasn't a typical teacher - I'd hardly done any teaching at all. At that time there was very little teaching of rock or blues saxophone. That's the style I did best and the producers were happy. I also pointed out that as I wasn't a real teacher, I was basically self taught and that my approach might be unorthodox and they were happy with that.

BTW, I was not enjoying myself at all.

Yeah, I like the atmosphere too! It sort of reminds me of a comfortable dinner, or I guess, breakfast conversation.
