Took my Grade 2 today

I took my Jazz grade 2 exam this afternoon.

I think it went reasonably well. The pieces went well, I cocked up a couple of scales, but he let me do the really bad one again. As for the aural tests and quick study - I don't really know, they seemed ok!!!

Just got to wait a couple of weeks for the result now!!!

Hi Nick,

I'd forgotten it was today you were taking your exam, I'm sure you did well. Which was the hard scale you avoided? And do you have to do any improvisation for the jazz grades?

Well, I think I should have passed!!!

It was the F Major arpeggio I didn't get first time. I apologised after the 2nd botched attempt and was going to give up on it, but the chap was very nice and just said to try again. It was ok then.

Yes, there is improvisation in the jazz grades. All the pieces have an improvisation section, the sight reading has improvisation after the sight reading bit, and the examiner plays some phrases on the piano which you have to answer.
