Sounding pretty good on my phone. ( work computer system blocks media) I will have another listen at home with better speakers. I rather like this tune, there is another posting of it somewhere in the beginner section, I will have to find the dots.

Oh boy Gareth, you sure are prolific! 😀 .. I like it though, in my mind lots of initiative = Lot's of music being made. Just remember its the quality, not the quantity.

Nice take, loads of emotion, you got a little close to the mic at some points.
At precisely 2 minutes & 10 seconds, you get very relaxed and i get a feeling that i hear more of you in both playing & tone.
Not to say that the other parts werent beautifully executed & very musical, because they where! .. But when that solo came, you got very personal.

Well done! I'm very jealous that you have the ability to play all of theese great Coltrane tunes..... Way too complex for my simplistic "Ear" approach..

I'm really, really bad at reading, i still have to count the dots & think about what order the keys are in...

@Gareth WG going great guns, nice one. Why don't you look at downloading audacity if you upload the backing track there and then record straight in to it using your zoom as a mic you can do all sorts with the mix, also add reverb, you'll love that 🙂

Hi Bolding,

I can read music but I play sax exclusively by ear. That tune doesn't seem complex to me, I wouldn't dream of trying to play in Coltrane's "Sheets of Sound" style, but here and on other tracks on the Ballads album he stays pretty close to the melody and doesn't play too many notes at all. I'd encourage you to give it a try, by ear, you might be surprised.

Totally agree Bernie, this is a basic version of Coltrane's.

It really is a simple tune to play but simultaneously wonderful to play.

I would encourage anyone who is a fan of Coltrane (or this tune) who is thinking of posting a recording (or learning by ear) to use this tune.
