TJ or Yamaha or Hanson for a beginner.

At the moment I am in two or rather four minds, first option is to go for either the Yamaha 275 or the Hanson SA5 Classic. The second option is to go for either the Yamaha 475 or the Hanson SA8!
Chris.

Hi Chris
I think you could regard the YAS275 and the SA5 as being very similar - but the Hanson is cheaper and has a MUCH better aftersales set up.

IMHO the SA8 is way better than the YAS475 - and I'm sure most in this forum would agree.

A hard choice - but nice to be in a position to choose

All the best

The SA-5 is also "way better", IMO, than a 275, and very little 'less good' than the 8..... it's just not available in so many pretty finishes (about the only reason I'm thinking of 'trading-up' to a 24K SA-8 ) 🙂

Hi Nick,

I hope you are very happy with your SA5, and I would be very interested to hear how you get on with it. I called Hanson today and had a wonderful chat with Maria and am now 90% sure I will go for a Hanson.

Chris.

Hello, I've just had delivered today an SA8-24kF. I've just started learning myself about 4 weeks ago I suppose. It replaced an ageing Jupiter 767 which was second hand from ebay and may or may not have leaky pads.

It came following a phone call to Hanson, they couldn't have been more helpful, after a bit of a chat they recommended the Otto link mouthpiece. Seems harder to blow than the Jupiter mouthpiece but no doubt it's me.

I'm learning in a band (Northants wind orchestra) with possibly 15 people all complete beginners, covering most wind instruments. Haven't really played it in anger yet but it doesn't squeak or miss notes like I make the Jupiter. :w00t:

We will see what the teacher says on Thursday night, but I'm happy.

See ya
Col.
