Folk The Other Sax #2

[Wade Cornell]

Here's a wide open opportunity to improvise a melody with just bass and rhythm in a simple but distinctive mode. First track is a tenor improvisation, the second is for you to have a go.

If you go to: wikiloops.com you can register (for free) and are allowed one download a day for free. If you wish to download more than one a day you will need to pay for a download ticket or take up a paid membership. It's also possible to hook up a (external) digital recorder to your computer and record the track while playing it.

Sounds like a lot of faffing and clicking to play to a one chord rhythm loop.

Not any different to signing up for a free account for soundcloud or anywhere else. Old saying about alternative: "waiting for a fired chicken to fly through the window and land on your plate".

Certainly nothing compulsory about any of this. If you register you can download one track a day for free. I will be posting (for a while) one track a day from that site. You can also go in there on your own and find thousands of backing tracks that you might enjoy. You can llisten to them for free, and as described previously record them.

Yea, I know how it is...some days you just don't want to get out of bed.

I registered but it still doesn't let me download anything. I'll record it with Audacity like I did with #1.

I'm in the same boat

They might lock out downloads for the first day or two of membership?

Five days if you join up to the plan that is free, as I just did.

Another outstanding play. Especially like the quieter moment and theme started ate 1:53 which is briefly repeated. Composition comment will be the same as for the first. Beautiful playing.

This is a great surprise and such a valid way to interpret the rhythm. You're perfectly in there and working with the backing and adding to it. This begs for another add to go on top. You've got a couple parts later where you take on the lead/melody, and these work very well also. Clever, direct giving it your own personal twist. Works for me!

So good to have you and Nick giving these a go. I sincerely hope that you are having fun with these and find them a worthwhile exercise. Wish you could see the grin on my face
