I love Stan!

[Chris]

For anyone wanting to hear 'Stan' playing something slightly different check this out. Most of 'Stans' part is improvised. If you get chance have a listen to the full 'Focus' CD..

Chris..

I can agree he can really play the sax (what an understatement) but I can't get into the music. I keep trying.

Different strokes - I love his playing, laid back, relaxed and an incredible sound. Just goes to show how versatile an instrument it is and how many tastes it can appeal to.

[ProfJames]

He sounds like it was an extra limb! He makes it sound very casual. Effortless even....

[jbtsax]

His Desafinado and Girl From Ipanema were a big influence on me growing up. To me he was the tenor version of Paul Desmond.

Yes. I've never been able to warm to either of them very much. I can admire their playing, but not really love it. All a matter of taste, of course.

I like to think of myself as having "eclectic tastes" in music. Some styles like hard bop and dixieland I like but can only take small doses at a time. I can listen to Getz bossa novas and Paul Desmond all day, but that is just my taste. I guess I'm just a mellow sort of guy.

I rather envy you.

[Colin the Bear]

Getz, Desmond and Mulligan. Now that would be a horn section.

[Colin the Bear]

I just googled that combination to make sure I hadn't missed it........................and there's an album.

[BigMartin]

Mulligan

Another obviously great player I can't really get excited about. Give me Chaloff or Adams any time.

Which one?

So they are never together: Mulligan Getz or Mulligan Desmond...
I am heartbroken....

I've got mulligan and desmond, and mulligan and getz. Three would be a charm.
