We Brits have Mothering Sunday earlier in the year. I'm told that its origin is Victorian, the day when young people in service (ie house servants) were allowed to go home to see their mothers. Nowadays it's widely known as Mothers' day and has been developed by the cards and gifts industry as a means of selling their wares. They're also promoting Fathers' Day for the same purpose. I think that deally the industry would have one national celebration per month.

The one good aspect about being single, I don't have to buy gifts all throughout the year such as Mother's Day, birthdays, Christmas, Valentine's Day, etc. I just buy my dog a NY strip steak instead.🙂

You're not behind - it was Mother's Day in New Zealand yesterday, Sunday the 10th of May...we must follow the American traditional and not the British way which is odd considering we part of the British Commonwealth (whatever that means)...

Yesterday was Sunday? There must be a lot of time differences between here and there. I guess folks are getting ready for bed in the UK. It's a little after 6:00pm here now...probably 11:00pm there.

Mothering Sunday falls in Lent in relation to Easter Sunday.

I seem to remember a rhyme from school Mothering Sunday, care away, Palm Sunday Easter day. ( Probably)

Easter day moves because it falls on the first Sunday after the full moon following the spring equinox. What this has to do with chocolate I'm not clear about.

Correct - New Zealand is 12 hours ahead of GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) in fact New Zealand is the first country in the world to welcome in the new day, to be precise Gisborne on the East Coast of the North Island of New Zealand is the first city...

Mothering Sunday - fourth Sunday in Lent. Christian tradition from hundreds of years ago.

Mother's Day - second Sunday in May. US substitute/replacement for Mothering Sunday from the 20th century.

Easter day moves around with the full moon because it was originally a 'Pagan' festival associated with the Moon Goddess and her symbol the hare.
When Christianity arrived the two festivals became combined.

We do get confused about this. The Pagans were the Romans. Rome converted to Christianity. Roman ie pagan festivals were adapted. Spring is the time of renewal and Oestra was the deity of fertility and renewal. Earth mother of sorts. We still give each other her egg.

I finally got a call from one of the two instructors I left messages for and set up my first appointment for lessons this Wednesday.

Oddly enough, the other guy I had called twice and he never responded after nearly a week called a couple hours later. He acted like he didn't want to tutor me for some reason probably due to my age...or so I felt. He said he was more use to teaching kids after they got home from school and also told me he'd probably have to spend an hour with me rather than the usual half hour since I was where I was. I took that to mean new to the sax and at this age since I mentioned I was retired. His charge would have been $50 each one hour lesson. I opted to go with the first one instead of him.
