Selmer 'Pennsylvania'

Does anyone know anything about the Selmer Pennsylvania, there's a tenor local to me on ebay at the moment.

They were a student line made for Selmer in eastern europe, by Amati I believe. My first tenor was a Penn. I bought it, on the recomendation of my teacher, from another of his pupils. My teacher advised me that it was one of the best saophones he had ever played and if I bought it, I would never need to buy a better sax. This included the Mk V1 and he added the "MkV11, if they ever make one". I bought the sax.

Years later I bought a MkV1 from a friend who was retiring and I sold the Penn to another friend. She still has it and we gig together. She had her teacher check it out and he told her the sax was "the real thing". Another of my friends plays a Pennsylvania baritone and she sounds awesome. Check it out. You may be on a winner.

I have a Tenor Penn and I gigged with it for 10 years with out a service, it needs one now.

Great blower mine, dead easy to play, but a bit crude by modern standards, mines gone a deep golden colour where the laquer is a bit tired.

I use a Brilhart 5* ebolin with it and I'd say thats as good a combination as any for a budding jazz monkey! Also free and easy top end, tonal differences across the bridge though mid C-D.

Other than that what can one say old chap!

Interesting horns - never seen one.
For info: These were stencils of one of the toneking models, so they should be good solid horns. I don't know what year they were made so it's difficult to say if they were made by Amati or Keilwerth as Amati took over the Chech factory and machinery after WWII. After JK split to its east german location both companies continued to produce horns of the same name until the squabble was resolved in court giving JK sole rights.
Just to confuse the issue - I've also read on a german site that these were yanagisawa stencils from the early seventies.
Any good pics anywhere?

I believe that the Yanagisawa made saxes were called "Super Pensylvania" They have a good reputation.
