Reeds scraping reeds

bits of bourque's dvd used to be on youtube, but i think theyre all gone now - might be worth a look though


and the appropriate bit from "the art of saxophone playing" used to reproduced in a few places, but i cant seem to find any of them any more either

Next time you're in Sax.xo.uk 🙂 have a look at a book they stock called Saxophone Mouthpiece Selection by Robert Scarff. Page 47 onwards. Useful diagram on pages 58 and 59. If you ask Phil really nicely he might even let you use the photocopier :w00t:
 
I had a small book (about A6 size) called the Reed Doctor which cost about 3 quid from Myatt's. It had diagrams of what parts of the reed to scrape/sand for various problem reeds, and it seemed really useful until I realised that I wasn't really fussy enough to get into reed-doctoring - usually a box of Royals or Superials has at least 7 or 8 reeds that I find playable and the others will usually play if you employ a subtle blend of psychology and extreme violence.
