There's a possibility that my work are going to move me to Scotland. Anyone able to recommend teachers and friendly training bands up there please?

I'd have to commute to both Edinburgh and Glasgow, which would give a wide choice of places to live - basically anywhere in the triangle formed by Stirling, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

If you look at the top right of this page you'll see a link to my saxophoneteachers.co.uk directory.

There's a Glasgow listing there for a start.

Good luck with your move,

I live (at the moment, planning to move to glasgow or edinburgh in a few months) in ayrshire and have a brilliant teacher in ayr whihc is probably too far for you! I have seen a jazz band before in glasgow (place called bloc on a saturday afternoon) called the michael deans quintet, really good and im sure I have also seen an advert for a sax teacher called michael deans in glasgow. I assume its the same person so id def check him out!

Also edinburgh is the place to be for jazz! Youl find the odd bit in glasgow, the aforementioned bloc on a saturday afternoon and blackfriars on a sunday, but thats about your lot as far as I know. Oh and the Glasgow jazz fest which is coming up!
Apparently Edin has a lot more to offer although Iv not had the chance to explore all it has to offer yet

There's an abundance of community bands in Edinburgh, so you won't be stuck for a band to play in.

A couple of my friends take lessons from a teacher called John Foley. They rate him highly.

If you do come to Edinburgh I'll be happy to recommend some bands for you.

Dont know about jadoube, but I have just moved to Edinburgh! So remembered this post as Im trying to sort myself out with a tutor. Found this site which looks like itl prove handy! http://www.jazz-in-scotland.co.uk/tuition.htm
Not actually lifted my sax in a month due to working and moving so should have a few blasts myself before I get a tutor again!

Just curious- how did you get on in your search? Where did you end up movin to?

Not moved yet, just had an offer on the house though.

On the (rather large) assumption nothing goes wrong I'll be there by the end of January.

So search still to be completed.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
