Tone or Sound recording oneself

what i have been trying to convey in my original post is the importance of recording yourself , not just though to analyse your tone but anything you may be working on.
I'd agree with that but with the proviso that your recorded tone can be very misleading. But recording is certainly very good for displaying problems with intonation, phrasing, breathing, style, improvising quality, etc. In fact, pretty much everything apart from tone which is too influenced by the recording process. As I said, I'm only interested in how I sound at the time of playing because that directly influences how I play. I play best when I like the sound I'm getting.
