Rampone & Cazzani R1 Saxello saxophone

Can anyone tell me what would be a realistic reserve or starting price for this instrument when listed on ebay? Also it had two extra mouthpieces which I'm presuming would be better to sell separately plus one of those things you trim reeds down with (is there a proper name for them?)

The soprano mouthpieces are a metal 'Otto Link 6 star' and a composite 'Selmer D made in France' both with ligatures and caps.

The description I have so far is:

Handmade in Italy and in as new condition, 24ct gold-plated and lovely engraving. This instrument approx 5 years old, but only played twice and is as new as it has been stored in smoke/dust-free even-temperature conditions with pad-saver in situ.

Beuscher neck strap; deluxe mouthpiece; extra reeds; hard case with key (case is of fluted black plastic with black heavily padded long flock interior, some minor surface scratches and logo badge missing).''

I haven't uploaded photo yet but will if anyone wants to see. Obviously I have to list it lower than a brand new one, but don't want to sell it for a silly price either. Is there anything more I should add to description?

just to add you definitely want to sell the mouthpieces and cordier separately

and certainly trying selling them here first - much better to give a cut to petes charities than to oil the corporate machine over at the devils junkyard

The only rampone & Cazzani I have played is an alto and I really liked it, however I don't think there is much of a market for them.

You can never tell with ebay, theoretically as its an auction and you are buying unseen, the price should be about the same as a dealer price, but if someone really wants it they'll bid very high, but only if its unique, ie no longer made hence a "colectors item". I might be interested but I would not be likely to pay as much unseen as I would if I tried it first, on the assumption that if i don't like it I'd have to resell it.

Well I'm sure the market for it will be a bit specialised, but am sure it will be desirable to the right people, hopefully - that's why I thought ebay might be the right place as it has so many potential virtual buyers.

In theory I'm against people buying instruments online without having tried them out first, but am guilty of doing it myself and my friend has just got a nice Martin guitar which he's very happy with.

I've sold a few things on ebay and if the instrument requires it then I sometimes say that it might be possible to come and try it - problem with that is you get strangers schleppin round the house, etc, which can be a bit irritating! A few years ago I sold a tenor horn to a lady in Wales and my friend came round and played it down the phone to her! haha - she did buy it and was very happy.

I'm still trying to get decent pictures of the darn thing - the light is either really gloomy or so bright that reflection is a problem, but I'll get there. Once done I'll probably advertise it here for a week or so, then if no joy resort to ebay.

Well it's only going to be there for 10-14 days then I'll leave it to mercy of ebay with reserve.

I took it to friends' gig last night and they were drooling over it, but no firm offers *sigh*
