I could tell 1 and 2 were the Martin and Conn but I thought 2 was the Conn. Last time those two were compared I got them right. I've been playing my Conn more so maybe my Conn sounds like a Martin!?
3 and 4 sounded like modern horns to me. They had a bit more of that tenor 'fuzz' on the sound. I suppose a MkVI is the first of the modern horns as it has the layout everyone copied thereafter.
I wasn't sure about 5. It sounded a bit on the flat side on things like Good Bait. It didn't sound too modern so I wondered if it might be a MKVI as some early ones didn't have that Selmer tone. None of them produced that sound for me so I kept changing my mind as to which could be the MkVI.
1 and 2 were good for honking and squealing but I thought 3 and 4 were better at the ballad type stuff. If I had to pick one as a compromise I'd go for 4 as it did OK on all tunes. If I could have two I'd include either 1 or 2.
So a thumbs up for the Walstein but a shock result for the Yani. And I still think 2 sounds more like a Conn!
