Hi Tom

An honest view, from one who's only been playing a few months longer than you!

I think you makea much better sound than I do...although I haven't recorded myself... and it's v good for 15 months' playing, IMO.

The biggest area for improvement, I believe, is in timing/phrasing/rhythm.
I'd suggest you listen to a CD of, say, "Summertime", or try to sing along to your own recording, and I hope you'll see what I mean...... when you play it, it all seems to 'run together', without pauses, and with notes which should be drawn-out being cut short.

I don't know the other tunes so well, but they sound as if they might be the same.

I hope you find this useful, and that the 'experts' will put me straight if I am talkin' rubbish!

Roger i am still waiting for Pete to come back to me but can i ask what your practice routine is? do you have any tunes recorded? i would love to have a listen thanks speak soon Tom,

Hi Tom

My practice is best described as 'undisciplined', but I do try to do some long tones, work thru' the exercises my teacher has allotted and then 'sprangle' a few toons by ear.
My only 'talent' is an excellent memory for tunes(esp those with lyrics!).... I always wanted to get on "Name That Tune".... for those old enough to remember it 🙂

I still have trouble with reading the dots!
That's probably partly due to my remembering the tune after a few goes(and teacher's demos), and thereafter playing it (nearly correctly!) by ear 🙁

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
