Beginner recording New Dynamic Mic & Preamp test recording

I've been recording myself with a Zoom H1 or a Samson CU03 USB mic and decided since I play in effectively a studio (a wardrobe sized one that is!) to buy a secondhand mic preamp (Behringer T1953) and a cheap dynamic mic (an sm57 impersonator known as a ISK dm57) and see how it fairs as a permanent mic setup in there and to have the Zoom H1 for excursions and the USB for other occasions altogether.

My reed was a tad chirpy and I hit the Low B with no grace at all - my chops are off from 10 days of flu - but I'm quite happy so far. Certainly more presence! I just need to learn how to best set the MIC TRIM vs the GAIN for output to my recorder.
