anyone know if the opening bars of the above are played on bari / bass ???

If you mean the opening solo (unaccompanied) riff, that carries on in one form or another throughout the tune, it's a baritone. It's also a cracking tune from a top album. The tune was also used on a TV ad not long ago, and is also used by me on holiday as a rallying call to mean 'everyone in the motor, we're hitting the beach'.

And in a couple of Guiness adverts: the one with the guy doing the really silly dance in front of the enormous pint and the update version for Guiness Cold, with an eskimo doing the dancing.

The baritone player was Ronnie Cuber (I think) and it's a great introduction.

I'd thought it was Tetleys? The original really bonkers guiness ad music was Perez Prado (an idea I think they nicked form a Pedro Almoldovar movie)

Your right nachoman it was Tetleys and Perez Prado, although I think Edmundo Ros did feature in one of those Guiness ads somewhere along the line. My brain struggles after the first six beers these days!

I stand corrected. As soon as I read the mail, the tune came back to me and indeed, the guiness adverts were definately a different tune. I commend you for making it to six beers before noticing a problem. Normally it's at the start of the 4th where I realise that it's not going to be just "a quick one after work"
