Anyone experienced the same.

I have attempted to reproduce A Clean earthy sound you come to associate with the Tenor. I play the Yangisawa T991. This was purchased brand new. Despite a check on the horn there is a slight metallic vibrating sound on the higher register. is this normal??
:S

Hi Chris,

without lookng at the sax it can be difficult to pinpoint the problem but I will make a stab and say that there is probably a loose screw or rod that is sympathetcially resonating when you play certain notes.

I had similar on a customers alto and after searching found it was the roller on the Eb key.

once found - the cure can often be just a little lubrication/oil.
Let us know if you find it, what it was and how it was corrected.

Thanks to you both for the reply's.

The Sax is four years old. I have undertaken a few visual and screw testing tests with nothing obvious. Its only a slight niggling noise and difficult to pin point. Not sure if its getting worse or im becoming more aware of it. If its getting worse it may help to pin point it.

Residing In Lichfield Staffordshire. I not aware of a local (ised) and trusted repair Technician. Or it would have made a visit by now.

I will make a more concerted effort to detect.

Will keep you informed.

I've heard something like this when someone used a certain ligature, Francois Louis I think it was so IMO it definitely can be something mechanical causing it. If so it may be that you hear it a lot more than someone a few feet away.

Its may be the Old Lady who constantly whinges behind me.

I like the Idea of using Blue tack. I will give that a try 8)

do check inside the bell! I've lost a small little pebble shaped thing down there before without realising and the next time I've played....

...rattle.....rattle.....bzzzzz.....rattle

...you get the idea.

The Problem has been Identified.

I'm not sure if its typical assembly on all sax, but I would guess its a frequent occurrence with this method.

On longer rods, supporting post are fitted at midway. The rod is prevented from ware and other anoying issues with cork inserts. It is the wearing down of the cork allowing the Rod to resonate at the top of the range. It probable occurse lowwer down too but not so noticable.

I would like to thank everyone for there input. :w00t: :w00t:
