OK, got the Francois Louis lig this morning, and as others say, it has opened up the sound and brightened things up considerably so very happy with it. One thing that wasn't so good was the pressure plate, very thin and bendy and the countersunk hole was not sufficient to stop the screw from gigging into my reed....so I simply replaced the pressure plate (making sure the curvature matched the profile of my reed first) with one from my Lawton lig, thicker material, longer, and countersunk properly, really very impressed, I am using a Harry Hartman carbon fiber reed by the way.

glad you like the ligature, strange about the screw digging into your reed, tho i had mine customised with a slightly longer screw and thicker 'washer' also the plate is meant to only touch the reed on 2 points which is on the edges of the plate and not to follow the curvature of the reed but to still apply enough pressure to hold it yet leaving a space through the middle of the reed allowing it to vibrate freely and resonate extra brightness through the tubular rails around the mouthpiece. Overall i am very happy with mine and i am sure, after some more playing and live gigs and jam session etc, you will see the difference and enjoy your new sound too, another tip is to go back to regular reeds, i use rico jazz select 2M, a slightly softer reed but using more diaphragm i get a brighter and bigger sound tho it is an extra embouchre work out but very worth it. i will post another sound clip or video using a better quality recording so you can hear the true sound as the 2 youtube posts i did were just rough quick recordings using an ipad..

What size lig have you gotMy plate has T stamped.Mine came with the extra brass washer and a longer screw.If i try and just use the small screw and no washer the same happend to me.So i use the washer,long screw.The FL plate is thin and this adds to its very free sound.You can buy the washer,screw.Putting a thicker plate on and a Lawton 1 at that which covers the whole reed your not getting the full effect of what the FL lig is made to do which is hardly any contact to the reed.Just a thought for your goodself.

the 'T' stamped is to indicate the top/front of the plate that should go towards the tip end of the reed to correctly put on the ligature, i was told this by the FL tech, if you try putting the ligature on the other way around with T at base of reed then it will not work properly as there is a different angle that the plate tilts at. but you must use the washer for mouthpieces like my guardala and similar thinner tenor pieces and the thinner reed plate to open the sound.

The T is for Tenor,Theres a A on the Alto plates,S on soprano plates.The guys wrong.The plate works both ways.Of course the lig only works 1 way but you dont have to have the T at the tip end but we all do of course.The key is dont tighten the screw to much so it tilts both ways and you get the true floating effect..

Stop now.You wanted to open up your MBII.Well what you bought will do that.Dont go down the keep changing plates road.Enjoy your mp,lig reed combo,why mess about more if your liking the FL effect as it is.The difference is SOOOOOOOOOO minimal.
