As fate would have it, Guava Jelly has asked that I do a holiday gig with them for a downtown event. They found out I knew Christmas tunes...

There's actually a picture of the combo from last year on the link above. Apparently, I'll be taking that third spot on the end for this one. Just have to watch out for marauding brassholes. A couple of the guys just bring their horns out to events such as this to jump into someone else's set. Like hey... isn't this fun? Then they crap on whatever it is you're trying to do. Seriously. There are people that do this in our town. Like it's okay.

Boy... isn't it something? That Christmas Spirit. I'm ready!
 
Two hours... and pretty cold. Thankfully though, my club was just behind the block where proper anti-freeze was available.

Another jamming for Jamaica gig with the Dream Grenades getting another three song set January 28th beginning at 7pm and probably wrapping up by 10pm. We'll be at my local gin joint this time, which is nice. I assume we'll play near the end, or at the end like last time. But good news is we picked up a drummer. He was at the last show beating on a box of some sort and expressed a desire to join us. He rehearsed with us a couple nights ago and it looks like the Dream Grenades are in fact back to it. We're gonna use this show to maybe book a gig for ourselves there later this year and go from there. Just have to build our set lists and we're good to go.
 
Well, Jammin' for Jamaica 2 will have to wait for March. Just got the call the gig is canceled as the bar's parking lot is like my front and back yards. An ice rink. They were going to extend the gig to midnight, giving my group (now with a drummer) an additional set... but tell you the truth, I'm somewhat relieved with what's out there. Though I dug the cars out and made the break through THE WALL the plows left at the end of the driveway, we haven't been anywhere since Friday. Most everything has been closed and the Mrs. can work from home. I had a pork butt on the smoker all day Saturday and the leftovers have been sublime. Tonight it's pulled pork nachos... and I can have a drink or two, not having to brave the ice tonight.
 
We generally get rather mild Winters, but for every ten years or so. Maybe check the sunspots? Well, the reason this one has paralyzed so many on the east coast is that it's been solidly below freezing for about a week. After the initial snowfall, it started sleeting with freezing rain that put a layer of concrete-like ice over the snow. If you got to the snow early, you'd be stuck with a sheet of ice instead. So I let it go for a day before going at it, which was actually a good plan. You break the top ice layer with a hoe and then scoop it up from the bottom where it's more workable. Sliding sheets of ice off the tops of the cars was actually not terribly difficult. But not the ice WALL. That's all solid ice left by the plows and takes work to break up and move. I still have to do a bit more around the mailbox... or I'll never get my TV Guide.
 
Sunday March 1 is the new date, 5:30-8:30pm. That's actually much better as it's a Sunday afternoon and I won't have to be held hostage in a bar till midnight on a weekday.
 
We go on Sunday at 7pm for another mini three song set, this time at my local spot. Not like anyone here can make it, but hey... if there's a livestream, I'll let you know. It's actually more of an audition as the guys want to get gigs there now that we're back and running.

I few years back I did an outdoor festival and got to do a whopping 15 minute set. Considering the logistics of parking, setting up and breaking down, was definitely not worth the trouble. Anyway, break a leg.

Well, the spot was less than a mile from my house, the place had a great crowd and it was for a good cause. This was only the second time we played together after a fifteen year break, and the first with the new drummer. So it was a good opportunity for us to put it together. Plus, the drummer and bass player played with multiple acts, sound was provided and all I had to do was show up. I took about two years off and didn't want to begin again at ground zero with a new project. This one coming back together is a lucky break for me and the guys give me the sort of freedom to make it worthwhile. I am rusty though.
