I also really liked your improv which I learned a lot from. Playing tenor in a Blues/Rock Band, I have some sax improvs. I'll listen to this version again and again to pick up some tips from you.

I've done a quick tinker with the tuner.

The S80 sounds much brighter to me, I've popped the D5M on, and messed about getting trying to get it more in tune. Some are still bit off, but not as much, I think it's better lipping a note up, than lip them down? As Colin said once I'm thinking about everything else it's inevitable that my embouchure will tighten.

Also less post processing - A very quick noodle here I'm interested in how you think the D5M sounds.

I've never learned to lip up or down. It's not a skill usually required -or appreciated - by most Big Bands! But I agree, lipping up (a bit) seems to come more naturally to me than trying - and failing - to lip down.

FWIW, I think that in your 2nd version, your sax sounds much better placed 'in the mix'. Maybe the sax could have have a bit more volume, but the 'sound' is IMHO better in the 'mix'.

I firmly believe that good sax playing is much, much more important than 'post-processing' skills! But a few very basic 'post-processing' tweaks can enhance recordings.
