JP Tenor 042

Hi

Has anyone had a go on one of these?
They seem awfully cheap but having said that my obscure McEvoy Alto sounds fine for a beginner. My McEvoy doesn't have the subtle complexity of tone that a Yamaha 275 has but then it is a third of the price, plays easily, has a nice tone and has done me fine for over a year now. No plans to change it but interested in trying out a tenor and short on readies.
Any one played one?
Thanks

NO, but packer are a reputable company. Gear4music is good. For a teeny bit more though you can get a Walstein.

I can only speak with reference to the JP Alto, as I have recently aquired a Walstein Alto for direct comparison.

The JP is a good, playable (and listenable) instrument but is outclassed by the Walstein in a number of areas:
- Tone is warmer.
- Keywork is lightly and more fluid.
- Intonation is better.
- It's nicer to look at.

These are only my opinions of course and I'm not sure what the price differential is between the two Tenors, which may be crucial in your decision making.

I've also just picked up the Walstein Tenor though and I am loving it to bits. I don't think you could be disappointed at the price - definitely worth checking out the competition at least.

Good luck in your search!
