And Adrian 63 mentioned Cannonball in passing which is another great alternative if they are available in your local
The guys name is Bert Wilson I'm pretty sure..
That's cool. Not quite so cheap here.I have no idea about Canadian market but $2500 usd is doable in Australia.
That is a lot to ask of a newbie, purchaser however. Starting to research how to match up non-factory necks with horns ?If you can figure out what the best PRC-made saxophone available right now is, and what necks are compatible with it, IMO the lowest possible (retail) option is a PRC offering with a boutique neck.
I really think you should try some different makes before buying… Sax.co in the UK are quarantining/decontaminating their saxes after trial I believe… they’re a massive shop, so maybe more feasible for them, but if you’re definitely going to buy from one shop, discuss trying one at a time with a giant deposit to convince them you’re serious. Then you can try a tenor 😎 - and definitely try Yanigasawa - their tenor felt too cramped for me, and I have smaller hands than you 😉 (also sounded too perfect and pure). Good luck.

When his budget is actually quite good just to buy an original factory instrument of a reputed name/long track record.
For a first-time new-horn purchase....the latter seems less complicated (?) and one is not likely to mess it up regardless of the horn choice at that price.

They run around $3000-3300 new, cheapest one I see is Thomann US for $2800usd.... but then shipping and customs to Canada would put it up over $3000usd.
I did mention Cannonball in another thread which brings me to my suggestion..
@RyanCannonball : is a member here and often around.
Having spoken to him he's a real nice guy and very helpful..
I'm sure he would give you a rundown on Cannonball altos whilst covering delivery and other details you may be finding problematic :
Just a thought and good luck...
Certainly -- if anyone has Cannonball-specific questions please feel free to ask and I'll be more than happy to help.
Hi @RyanCannonball , are there any Cannonball dealers in or near the Greater Toronto Area that I could visit and try a couple of Cannonball alto saxes?

Bert Wilson "world famous underground jazz legend" performed & recorded on soprano, alto & tenor saxophones, clarinet & bass clarinet. Someone born during 1939, severely afflicted by polio as a four year-old child dancer from a family of vaudevillians, preparing to become the male Shirley Temple. A seven octave saxophone range, and precise multiphonices: see old issues of Saxophone Journal, who created advanced technique on sax. What was that guys name ? It's going to bug me all day now...
