I find swaying from side to side helps. A 4/4 bar is left right left right or you can have the one on the right foot. Can do it in an exaggerated fashion or imperceptible. When it comes to quarter tone triplets first on the left then just before and just after the right and next note on the beat on the left. After a while you can concentrate on getting the three evenly spaced.

It's something I became aware of as I learnt more and listened more. It's amazing how much tension is generated by the lead pushing ahead of the beat when the rhythm/bass don't speed up. And.... The converse. Doing it is another thing, as you say.

Nat king Cole was very good at coming in late. It makes things seem so relaxed and lazy. If the rhythm section chase you when you're in front of the beat it can end up like Benny Hill

unless I have downloaded the wrong app, I don't understand it --- the metronome appears to tick at a different speed to the beats in the bar. Just how is that useful?

Mine doesn't. Is your icon for it a blue drummer, with a white skin on the bass and arms up?

I think it's great, it take some getting used to but if I get the first beat I'm doing ok so far 🙂

No....I've looked in the App Store and don't see any apps with an icon like that.
It is called "Rhythm Training", is it?

That is the one I downloaded, but after the first 8 bars or so, the beat speeds up but he metronome doesn't!!

Sorry, doesn't work on my phone, I've tried with Firefox and chrome. I also checked if they have a Web site, seems they don't, just the play store entry point.
