Got a "New" Tenor!

Had been looking around for quite some time for a low-cost tenor, had a post on SOTW discussing my options, when a poster offered me a 1961 Conn 10M. Missing almost all of the lacquer, but most of the pads look pretty good. I'm having it shipped directly to my tech who is in another state, and hopefully I can pick her up in about 3 weeks!

Need to find a good, low cost, mouthpiece for her though...

I like the 10ms too - does yours have the rolled toneholes or is it a later model? either way - when set up nicely these produce a real beefy tone - as for mouthpiece well thats a personal thing and it would depend on what you were using the sax for mainly - concert, rock, jazz etc but a good allround mouthpiece you might consider a selmer scroll shank, a selmer soloist, claude lakey or an otto link - all ebonite/hard rubber.

you can pick them up fairly inexpensively on ebay.

Mine was made slightly after they lost the rolled tone holes, which is too bad, but for the price I got (I'd be happy to post that after the sale has officially completed) I'm very very happy.

I love the C* on my Selmer, but I've heard that they are not good on the 10Ms, and I've had some experience with that. When I was in High School most of my tenor work was done on a 10M and you'd have to have the C* mouthpiece hanging at the very end of the neck. I guess it's a common problem, and some players have even gone to their techs and had the necks extended. I may still try one at some point just for the heck of it, but it'd probably just want to mess around in the store on it.

Why not try a JJ Classic? They are cheap and flexible plus with the spoiler in make a real wild sound???

Failing that... I've got a Lebayle HR I might want to sell.... So PM me if you're interested.

Just to say, it would be Il Padrino with the S80 C*, I've never owned one myself for tenor.

I love ottolink tone edge pieces on my saxophones. You might want to try RPC. There is always great things being said about them.

I'm thinking of getting one for tenor as soon as I get the money after fixing my Martin alto up.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
