Don Weller

Lovely - I saw Don Weller a long time ago with Stan Tracey, but didn't hear the sensitive side of his playing - more the rumbustuous hard-blowing style that goes with his piratical image.

Thanks a lot

Rhys

PS Being a boring gear-head and a Lawton fan ...... it looks like he was playing a Lawton mouthpiece with a built-in mic pick-up back then (possibly 70s). I'd never heard of them before today, but there's one on eBay with the pick-up hole filled in.

He certainly did play a Lawton. I knew Don quite well as we did a few sessions and gigs together. A very nice bloke. Did you ever see him with his rock/jazz/funk/fusion/whatever band Major Surgery?

Edited to provide useful link:
http://www.marlowjazz.co.uk/

I wouldn't be able to go anyway but am I missing something?
The link says Derek Nash for the 22nd.

My mistake, I misunderstood the announcement. It is Derek Nash on the 22nd, Peter King and Don Weller on the 12th August.

Say hello from me.

But don't post his reply here.

I will try and pluck up the courage to approach him, as I can "name drop". "Hello, I've had textual congress with that Pete Thomas, you know. Buy me a drink?" Will that work do you think?

Please note I got the date wrong, Peter King and Don Weller will be at Marlow on 12th August.

Similar threads... or are they? Maybe not but they could be worth reading anyway 😀
