'dadadada' sound when I use the octave key for d2 to g2 :S

I am finding the same problem with my octave G.. all the other notes play pretty smoothly except the higher G (octave key) I have to really tighten up the embouchure to get that note to sound right.

When you find out how you fixed your issue, keep me posted.

I sometimes had problems with G2 'warbling' i.e. an oscillating effect.

I found that G2 needed more of whatever it is you do to achieve the higher harmonics.

For me that was a higher position of the throat and tongue. It seemed to need a faster airflow than other similarly placed notes to achieve the note with the same quality of tone.

I'm sure your teacher will be able to help you out.

Pete,

On alt.music.saxophone, as Pete said there was a discussion about this problem and it seems it is quite common and can often be traced back to poor embouchure and/or air column support.

I tried the troublesome G after tuning my sax and it was fine, great! After playing for a little bit I came back to the G and I felt I was on the cusp of it starting again. I realised I was probably 1/4 full on air, if that, and so taking a breath and trying again was much better.
