I just discovered him through emusic. Apparently he's a sax professor somewhere, but this was a wonderful example of lyrical and expressive playing, as well as a kick-a s s version of Wayne Shorter's Footprints.

The album is called "Out of the Shadows" - Anyone else had a taste of this guy's stuff?

Yeh, he played with Chuck Mangione on the Children of Sanchez album for the movie, I've still got a vinyl of it in the rack. Also got a book of him playing, written in collaboration with James Hosay called "Jazz Rock USA".
From what I've heard of his playing, he's obviously worked hard at it and seems to play within himself, solid and as you say kick a s s.
Thanks for the tip I'll pull out the Mangione album and spin it later when I torture the shrimps and skin the garlic. gruss - spike

Chris Vadala used to write a column for Saxophone Journal magazine a few years ago - the articles covered doubling on other saxes, clarinets, various flutes, recorders and even extended to tin whistles and double reed instruments. You might be able to get some of the back issues or articles.
