Animals Cats

I get a lot of hedgehog poo in my garden, but not much cat poo and I know which one it is cos I've seen him dumping on my lawn, so I check before I get the mower out and remove any noxious lumps. The others seem to use their litter trays or the gravel on the drive. I don't have any cats but the amount of feline fur on my duvet indicates that the neighbours' cats think otherwise.

It's nice that you have hedgehogs 🙂

I rarely see them and don't know where they live, but they come through my garden at night and eat the snails and slugs so I assume that the small droppings I've found are theirs... just googled 'hedgehog poo' and the pictures confirm my suspicions as well as arousing new ones about who on earth would post pics of hedgehog excrement on the internet... probably best not to ask and we'll draw a discreet veil over the whole sordid business..
.....a random cat has just wandered downstairs and wants letting out...

Can I have some hedgehogs? They'd get really well fed. They would need to bring their own knives and forks but we will provide slugs and snails by the thousands. It's a pity cats don't eat them, could put up with a couple of lumps of cat poo if they got rid of slugs and snails.

unfortunatetly you're right, I've never seen a cat eat slugs or snails - spiders and moths sometimes... they seem to prefer sneaking in though my kitchen window and eating the bacon rind out of the bin, licking the plates clean (saves washing up) or trying to nick the ham out of my sandwich while I'm eating it - I only put up with them 'cos they keep me warm in winter but eventually I'll have enough cat fluff to knit a jumper so I'll be able to dispense with their services.
I regret I may not be able to provide you with any hedgehogs since I suspect there are laws about sending live animals through the post and my hedgehogs are only visitors - there are plenty of gaps in my fence, behind the shed and under the gate so wildlife can get in and out and although I've never seen one there's probably an occasional fox comes in - you think cat poo is bad...

Here is a link to some useful info ...

I am sure they pass through your area regularly when they are out of hibernation. But make sure there are a couple of access points into you garden or you will be unlucky. [Small hole under the fence or something].

Wait till at least April or May when they should be more active before you try to attract them to your home.

To encourage them into your garden put a small dish with puppy food - preferably in a box with a cover and an entrance hole big enough to let them enter ... [Try hiding the box under some logs or something - Hedgehogs love puppy food and will soon learn where they can find the grub, some water will also be appreciated].

The box is purely to try to keep other domestic animals out as well as to keep the food dry.

Once they find your cafe, they will regularly return to feed and they will devour many of the slimier creatures that you mention.

As will the rats.

However we have a regular hedgehog visitor, Ricky

Sometimes there is a bit of standoff with Curtis

Sad to say, domestic animals may be kept away but we have squirrels, dozens of 'em and they even chew their way through steel cages that surround bird feeders. Nothing can stop them.

I've been told there's good eating on a squirrel, have you tried to catch one. They go vertically up trees. They are 20ft up before you can blink.

My wife's Louisiana cookbook has a recipe, I would like to make it, but it requires seventeen squirrels
