Saxophones Buescher True Tone 1926 C melody sax possible to play without repad?

The Wera screwdrivers finally arrive today so I'll try this with a screw and see how it goes. Thank you.
Nice set !
Do check fit ! Don’t force a stuck screw or rod. There are techniques for loosening the stubborn ones.

I removed a few keys to see how it went. The screws came out easily. One snap on pad was already badly torn so I went ahead and removed that one from the cup to see how complicated that would be. I’m going to read more on repadding before I remove anymore keys. With these reference “pictures,” I should be able to get things back together without too much headache (I hope!). 😅

Took the opportunity to use some haggertys polish while I had the octave key off.☺️

Good job :thumb:
Washing the parts prior to polishing helps prevent swirling scratches from polishing. Tepid water & Dawn dish soap is fine. Palmolive dish soap contains sulfur. It will turn everything black.

Buy some pipe cleaners. Make sure no polish is plugging the octave vent hole. Also run a pipe cleaner through the key pivot tube and posts. Add a drop of oil inside tube and a smear on hinge rod. Assemble.

The spring hook pictured above a made from a windshield wiper blade spring. 7” long. Hand filed the notch into the end. The vinyl hose came from a medical oxygen hose scrap pile. All free.

Use PostIt or some bright color painter's tape (yellow for delicate surfaces) for the keys to number them 1-26 and write the number on the pad.
I used yellow just for you.
Please look this over for mistakes. I’ve got an insane migraine this afternoon. My noggin is foggy.

I think you are the only person in the sax world who refers to the Eb as D#. I mean, technically you can bend it to be either one depending on the key you play but on a c-mel, Dis sounds a bit dissonant. Imagine an alto player saying his horn is keyed to D#. That's like a tenor player saying his horn is in A#. Es or Eb roll off the tongue much easier,
But get that brain fog taken care of first and the scales will fall, maybe even into place 🙂
