BOTM BOTM October 2020 - One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)

This is by far the hardest song I've played in all my nearly three years of saxophone. I wasn't able to resist "On Broadway" playing in my head the whole time. What an excellent exercise, too. Incidentally, the reed is a Red Monster 3, the Jody Jazz HR 6M* mouthpiece. The reed is the easiest blowing reed I have, and that includes Vandoren 2 and Legère 2.25. The JJ piece is the widest I have so requires more air than my others.

An accurate description on wikipedia IMO:

Nice intestinal parasite

I have a particular affection for this number, which I first heard within the soundtrack to Blade Runner 2049 (if you like that kinda thing)

Playing and recording to sheet music is a great way of exposing tone, intonation and expression. Which is three reasons why I don't do it very often. Thank you to @Jmoen3 for being such a good host

I did a new take of this with a different reed, tempo and backing track. Soundcloud allows files to be replaced, but I can't edit the original Café post from 15 days ago, so I have to link to it. This is a Légère "American Cut" 2.25 reed, which has grown on me considerably. I really like it, possibly because it's just a little lighter than a 2.5 and heavier than a 2.0. Logical, that.

Yes the piano is very present ( to the right and sax to the left)
Sounds nice Ivan, but I'm with Colin, and part of it is the sax is a little too far on (for me) the right. I'd pull the piano down a bit and move the sax over nearer to center. The playing is fine and has nothing to hide from! 🙂

I've dared to listen back again... sax is on my left... clear level compared to the piano... dunno why there's such a disparity between what I hear and the venerable and learned ears of you and Colin...

Must pop down to the clinic for good syringing
