I know you are all thinking "enough with the Marsalis / Sting thing" so can anyone suggest someone else I can listen to? At the moment I know no other player who has such versatility and down-right feel for the instrument.. I think its great when you hear a jazz player who is so obviously influenced by his classical playing and vice-versa. But I would like to listen someone else, really... just not the nasal, snake-charmer variety.

Great playing by Stan the Man. Very effective to use the Sop in the lower reg. and the Tenor in the upper reg for this tune. In effect playing the same concert notes, but with a total contrast in expression. Must remember to use this contrast for some tunes.

Wow - never heard Steve Lacey sound like that before. The restraining influence of the wonderful Gil Evans (anagram Svengali - like that…). The last time I youtubed Steve Lacey I had to retire hurt after 30 seconds.

The Joshua Redman - now that's the stuff. Thanks Griff. Are you playing any classical music on soprano sax at music college? Are you expected to play with a different tone to your usual super-fat, subtone, smooth sound?!
