I've had a lot on in April so saxophones have been neglected, but I have had a few occasions to escape and play this.

It's also my birthday today which means you all have to be extra nice to me 😛 so I dusted off my Soprano, and added some reverb 🤣

Nice and laid back playing. The only thing is your distance to the mic, there are a few notes that feel like they punch my eardrums. This has nothing to do with your playing, which is very fine, it's the mic positioning and mixing and it probably doesn't even come into play when listening in the car or stereo.

Yes you're probably right, I tried some earlier recordings and the upper register sounded terrible. I might have been better using the SM57, rather than the Scarlet mic.

I've not really experimented with recording the Sop, for such a dinky horn it makes a fair amount of noise.

You are totally correct, I used to take my sop to matinees because I thought it would be "softer" than the tenor -- well guess what, the only thing that happened was that when I tried to play soft, it got out of tune...

And recording sop is a science by itself. I am using an RE20 but I make sure I don't center the horn on it but go off to the side by ~ 20 degrees. And then I use a second "room mic", Sterling ST51, not the greatest mic but really good for sop recordings and come in at an about 60 degree angle where I center it on the upper stack. Thanks to @mrblackbat I learned to record both tracks individually so that I can mix them against each other.
